Title: MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING A STRONG PASSWORD
Post by: Defend the Sacred on February 17, 2011, 10:39:01 pm
Yes, there's a reason I'm shouting a bit in that header.

We had a hacking attempt today. Someone attempted to log in to a number of people's accounts. It looks like they were just trying to guess people's passwords, and failing. As far as we know they did not succeed, but we are still looking into it.

Please make sure your passwords are strong.

If anyone starts posting crazy stuff and we suspect their account has been compromised, they will be blocked until it's sorted out. But so far it seems like it was a failed attempt.

Tansi;
I had a failed attempted login, too, although I cannot imagine anyone wanting to steal my identity.

Just a thought, but the bad guys are probably trying to hack accounts in an attempt to mimic credible posters so that they can PM the people who are causing them the most problems, using that disguise, and try to obtain information that will help them to ID them.

I have had no problems with attempts to log into my account but am expecting a PM from a hacked account sooner or later.

I had a failed login attempt e-mail sent to me this last Monday.

The best advice I would give everyone is make sure you don't have a same password on this forum as in other forums (or social sites) especially if the username is the same.
