Opinions Please: What to Do When Someone Has Been Under Research Needed...

...and Has Been Found to be Doing Nothing Wrong.

I received a request to delete the thread on someone. While there was nothing in the thread negative about the person, just questions, they feel simply being asked questions about in NAFPS could damage their reputation, since some might simply look at the title and not read the thread which showed that they did nothing wrong.

What does everyone think should be the practice for cases like this? Delete the thread? Retitle it to indicate they are innocent of wrongdoing? Other suggestions?

Deleting the thread could lose valuable information.

I guess you don't want to move them to "Non-Frauds" because that could imply an endorsement which might be more than you want to give.

However, it doesn't seem right to leave them in "Research Needed", if research is no longer needed.

How about simply moving the thread to the archives?

Moving them to Archives sounds appropriate, also re-titling the thread along the way if the title implies something that was discovered to be false/unfounded.

I was just about to suggest something similar .

When someones name comes up in a google search the title of the thread is the header of what the search finds , so maybe changing the title from something that identifies a person or organization to something like ,

"No longer a concern or being researched by NAFPS "

together with putting it in the archives would solve the problem .

I know the moderators do delete specific accusations that are serious if these are seen to be not true, and that seems like a good thing to do, but if whole threads get deleted it seems we would often loose information that is valuable to another investigation.

I was thinking about this some more and I'm a bit uncomfortable at the idea it's not OK for people to ask questions because just doing this might hurt someones reputation, and that only people involved in wrongdoing should be in research needed ....

I think it's really important for people to be able to ask questions , and being listed in research needed just means people are asking questions ... Probably lots of people in research needed aren't doing anything wrong , or it is a matter of opinion and what they are doing is just controversial .

I guess if people are worried that someone just seeing their name in NAFPS might jump to the conclusion this person did something wrong if they don't read what was actually said, this concern would also apply to anyone named in the "Non-frauds" catagory,  or to an name mentioned in NAFPS such as Al Carroll , Barnaby Mc Ewen , and many of the Elders and Spiritual leaders who are often refered to here.

I'm not sure how much responsibility NAFPS should take if people don't read what is actually said .

If someone gets put in research needed and is found to be doing nothing wrong, maybe just changing the title of thread so it no longer contains a person or organizations name would be enough to prevent people from seeing this ,but not reading what was said , and jumping to conclusions - or maybe a moderator could also edit the first post and put a notice at the very begining of the first post , explaining that the questions had been resolved and no wrong doing was found .

So far I think we've seen people requesting moves to "Non-Frauds" (or their friends starting a thread on them in "Non-Frauds"), or requesting deletion of a thread, when not everything has necessarily been resolved or answered.

I can think of a few cases where people have still been associated with Nuage organizations, or are being questioned about their representation of the culture, and while there may not be anything egregious going on, there is not really a consensus on the situation.

It's not clear-cut in most of these cases. We've tried to reassure people that "Research Needed" is not the same as being listed under "Frauds." At the same time, we've also seen people agitating to be moved out of "Research Needed" when there are still questions. The questions may not be pressing... but still questions.
