Recently, SouthWest Skeptic (aka Rose) let us know about the following racist comment left on Kate Clinton's website by a "Snowy Owl Womon":

"These ignorant casino rats don't know anything about spiritualty. They're too drunk and lazy to go to university. They just want to drag us into their reservation sewers with them. My skin is white as a feather but my DNA is more red than these hater's will ever be. I wish these vermin would just go extinct!"

This racist, shameful, eugenicist rant from a New Age sounding bigot got me thinking.

Many years ago, my husband came to visit me in the city where I live.  One day we visited a gardening store where the clerk seemed fascinated with my husband and couldn't stop staring at him.  As we paid for our bedding plants she asked him "do you mind if I ask you what Nation you are from?"

I swear, when my husband answered "I am Lakota", the woman almost genuflected before him!   She started waving her arms around wildly and told him how much she respected his nation and all their "sacred teachings" which she claimed that she had been studying from someone called "Snowy Owl Woman".

She asked my husband, do you know SOW?  The garden store clerk told us that SOW was White but had been sought out by the Lakota because she had been chosen to carry the sacred teachings of the Lakota.   She had completely bought into this story and didn't see anything stupid about it, even asked my old man if he knew of Snowy Owl Woman!  She said that SOW regularly held workshops and she had travelled to Oregon several time to attend her sacred workshops.  My husband looked straight at her and said "yes, Oregon is really traditional Lakota Territory", but she didn't get the joke, just nodded her head.

Sicne then, from time to time, the name "Snowy Owl Woman" had come up, but I have not found much on the internet about who she is.

Has anyone heard about such a person operating in Oregon, or elsewhere?

Cannot confirm if this is the same person, but a Google search turned up these bits:

Years later, as I was about to begin a new college class, the professor walked in~looked at me~I looked at her~and she motioned for me to follow her into the hallway. I recognized her and she recognized me.  She then began to recount to me the details of my experience when I died in vivid detail.  As it turns out, she is Native American (Mohawk), and is known as Snowy Owl Woman (great white bird).  Since then, she has been my mentor, my shaman teacher, and my connection to the Shadow World. I have mixed my blood with hers, and I am known in the clan as Kahrhokon: ha (Old Hawk)~ I now follow the ways of the ancients, walk the Medicine Circle, and journey often to the Shadow World in behalf of others~ helping them to understand the journey of death, and to dispel in others the linear nature of fear of death, and instill the faith that what lies ahead is a Sacred Path for all.

That email address sounds familiar, but google only turned up the above result for it. Maybe I'm thinking of another "topaz" address...

I recently encountered a woman who calls herself "Chief Snowy Owl" and would also like to know more - I have not been able to find anything on the web.
She does not have an e-mail address or website or cell-phone (I asked, in respects to contacting her).
She was "advertising" things that she is doing locally. She did not mention a fee, but when I asked her directly when we spoke later, she said there was.

What I know (from her) is that she does "shamanic" work (journeying to the underworld) and claims to be one of the "ancients" (?), recently returned from a trip to the Mohave where she received the medicine of the joshua tree, did some kind of a buddha blessing at a Reiki practice in town, and is doing some kind of retreat/ceremony this weekend locally. She is then going to Virginia, I believe.
She used the word "chief" in regards to one who pours a lodge (she said she was gifted with a lodge by 14 women who built it for her, did not mention any particluar tradition or Nation).

She has asked me to attend, or at least meet with her, and I am considering doing so to learn more of what she is doing and what her intentions are...
If anyone has any more info, please post or contact me.
I will do the same if I get any more info.
