Outing teachers?
« on: August 18, 2010, 01:43:01 pm »
Just a question here, and I'm truthfully not sure if it would apply to this forum at all, but I have heard many stories of certain male teachers using "spirituality" to basically prey on women. I've met a few at some of the studios I used to go to and I'm just wondering if such a topic would be relevant and useful here?

For those who are strictly yoga teachers who abuse their patients/clients/followers, it's a bit out of our area. We have had people coming here before to tell us about abusive gurus, but obviously it's not a subject most of us know much about. I've looked around a few times before for something like a Hindu version of nafps, but haven't really found it. The closest is the guru ratings by a guy named Arlo. As I recall, he's extremely lenient and tends to make excuses for some abusers.

Once in awhile there will be the shamans who use knockoffs of yoga, or pass yoga off as shamanism. So the topic would be useful to us that way.
