A whole new level of weird. Who knew?
From a blog this morning:
I'm not sure it's fair to say Chechens are any more brutal or crazy than any other group - Catholics, Native Americans, Blacks etc.
My response:
You can compare Native Americans to Chechens when there is a Native America in the United States and Canada.
You equate Native American with extreme Islamic terrorism?
To add to the drama of stark criminal violence, there's now a bunch of perfectly "reasonable" white people running around flailing about "Asians" and "Chechen rebels." As we knew there would be. Someone was trying to find a different descriptor for 'middle eastern' and said
"Southwest Asian," meaning an Arab or Muslim or Egyptian or Turk or Pakistani that doesn't 'look' Middle Eastern. What? Someone else said:
"Semitic-looking."I just called my kid in a big city in another state and told her - heightened awareness and vigilance. Tell people where you're going and don't walk alone. She's brown. With a strange long foreign-sounding indigenous last name without enough vowels to please airport security.
No fear and no paranoia; just personal safety. <sigh>
