There is a woman on facebook who calls herself "Eliza White Buffalo" - she claims she "channels the... spirit of Black Elk" and has written a book (already accepted for publication in the UK) of "wisdom passed to her by the spirit of Black Elk" - from her FB page: "I am a shaman and an author. My main spirit guide is Nicholas Black Elk, famous Lakota Sioux holy man."

Eliza White Buffalo is a modern day Irish medicine woman and psychic channel for a teaching spirit who revealed himself to her as Nicholas Black Elk.
Born in Ireland in the 60's Eliza grew up in the Roman Catholic Tradition, but from a very early age she was already being trained by the spirits in what she calls the way of the shaman. Shamanism is found in many traditions around the world.

Eliza White Buffalo was born in Ireland in 1965. From the age of five she has been communicating with Spirit, and in particular, with a spirit who tells her he is Nicholas Black Elk. She seems to be referring to herself as Rose McDevit in her books. Copyright page of The Two Roads, Part One reads "This story is based on my experiences as a shaman. However, the actual personal and family life of Rose and Lissy is fictional ... Eliza White Buffalo".

Eliza states on her site that one of her teachers is Brooke Medicine Eagle.

And she claims that she also gets messages from Ben Black Eagle and John G Neihardt.

If she actually believes she talks to Black Elk, she ignores that either it was another spirit or he was pulling her leg. Supposedly BE said her books would be as big as Harry Potter. Instead it's been three years since she had to get her book self published and it's ranked #1,3163,114, near the bottom.

Even a positive review said there's nothing remotely like BE's words in the book. The only thing remotely NDN in the book is a mention of a tipi. It's basically a young girl being abused who hears messages from a spirit saying "Stay strong."

"Believe, says Black Elk. "What you identify with will be your experience; and so if you identify with Light and Love you will live in Light and Love."

How could anyone trust anything she says? She does try to cover all bases by claiming both "a spirit who tells her he is Nicholas Black Elk" and "Black Elk has been teaching Eliza all her life". She says it "should be taken as" her personal truth and not proven fact. Yet: "I am Eliza White Buffalo, so named by my spirit guide Black Elk, Lakota Sioux Holy Man 1863-1950".

I am presently creating sacred grounds in which to do ceremony. It is mainly connected to the earth based ways of the Lakota, but also is Celtic, and Christian in manner.

She may or may not have had a rough childhood. Maybe she did converse with spirits real or imagined to help her survive. Why make this her public persona, her brand, why market herself this way?

The way she tries to finesse her definitions and descriptions makes me think this is a scam to make money.

According to her website she is a medium. She has published 3 books allegedly channeled from Nicholas Black Elk and John Neihardt who wrote Black Elk Speaks. She recently posted on FB her Two Roads book is going to be made in to a motion picture and Meryl Streep might star in it. I've never met her so can't say if she is a legit medium or not. She was giving away copies of her first 2 books in ebook format asking for reviews from the readers awhile ago. I assume this was to get up more favorable reviews and get up interest in the 3rd book which was going to be released. I have not come across anything yet (not that I've done piles of research on Eliza yet) stating Black Elk promised her these books would sell like Harry Potter books so I'd be interested to see where this info came from. I am interested to see if the movie of her book gets made or if this is to whip up interest in her books/sales.
