I like the oxymoron in the subtitle: Dr Hank Wesselman Ph.D. That page makes much of his scientific credentials but there is no mention of his current position, recent papers, etc. Since he's been offering "workshops" at places like Esalen since 1994, I'd say he is no longer an anthropologist but likes it when the hippies look up to him.

My late friend, JV, said this guy was big among the nuagers in Nevada City area of California. He said on the few times he encountered the guy, he was not impressed. As for myself, I read one of his books, loaned to me by a friend. We both had an "EEEEEEWWWWWW!" moment and an urge to smack him when he described insisting that his 8+months pregnant wife have sex with him even though she was uncomfortable and did not wish to do that. I figure, at the very least, he is a collossal, self centered jerk. But that's just MY opinion.

If he is doing Esalen that says a lot. That was the Fritz Perls group, among others. They have always been out there. The "you do your thing and I do mine" philosophy. I doubt if they have changed much.  Interesting to combine that with Anthropology. Not a fan of either one. I do remember being told that that is where a lot of Californians sent their kids for graduation gifts. Says a lot. frederica

It seems that it takes a small vision to write and sell an entertaining book and serve out milktoast spirituality. It takes big medicine to move the world. Again, it appears that people's appetite for entertainment is much greater than their willingness to suffer a real Native American spiritual path.
