We've got this guy (and his brother) all over massachusetts, running classes in Andover, Braintree, just about any place with a new age bookstore. They run various classes and rites (which seem to all be about florida water and eggs...) all for various charges, run trips to Ecuador to "teach" shamanism to the gullible, etc (my ex was convinced that he's now a "rainbow bird shaman" or something-or-other with more 'spiritual power' than anything else and 'clean karma' etc... any excuse for a buck)

Are there ways to stop these people?

This is copied from St Suzan (no, not kidding about the Saint part) website (she's one of the Tawayo's intercessors for the Mass new age community

"One of my most profound moments was being initiated as shaman. There is nothing more humbling than to be married to three sacred volanoes, walk on their hallowed ground & be invited to carry on a tradition that spans generations. I can only hope to be a powerful channel of healing & love to the world now that I have taken on this lifetime commitment. My teachers don Esteban & don Jorge Tamayo have gifted me with an amazing opportunity…I am grateful….I think about and take action to heal the future of the Earth and all the beings that reside within, upon & around her. To this end I co-facilitate trips to study with Shamans in Ecuador with Dolores Mannix of Earth Summit LLC. Our teachers are wise wisdom keepers who help us ground our work with them in Earth honoring ways of being. You can look at some of the trips that Earth Summit offers at  http://www.earthsummitllc.com and come along on the journey with us if you like. We travel into the high Andes, into the tiny town of Carabuela to work with Yachaks (shamans) don Jorge & don Estaban Tamayo, stop into Otavalo for a day at the world famous market, and go deep into the rainforest for ceremony & culture sharing. There is plenty of time for connection to the community, time to learn & grow as a person in all ways, to connect to the group & to be out in nature. It is an amazing experience if I do say so myself. Earth Summit also offers family trips…so please check us out!"

The main thing that can be done is to warn people. Unless there are laws being broken or abuse other than spiritual and emotional.

Esteban Tamayo certainly does make contradictory claims, or people do so on his behalf.

"Descendant of Incas."

Almost certainly a lie. The Incas were an imperial line, extremely well documented as much as any royal house of Europe. Most Inca nobility intermarried with Spaniards, except for the ones killed off. Probably they meant they were "Inca Indians" which don't exist. The tribal name was (and is) Quechua, but the Inca Empire was as much of an enormous mixed nation of many peoples as the Roman or Babylonian.

Here he claims to be Cara Indian.

Here he claims to be Otavalo.
http://www.vision-quest-travel.com/

One site mentions the Cara language is extinct and the Cara are today among the Otevalo.
http://www.native-languages.org/cara.htm

This site gives a general view of Otevalo culture.
http://www.mindspring.com/~tbgray/otavalo.htm

And this article says the Otevalo are all Catholics, sometimes mixed with curanderos, traditional Indian/Catholic healers.
http://www.everyculture.com/South-America/Otavalo-Religion-and-Expressive-Culture.html

Another site says something very different, but still contradicts Tamayo.
http://www.traveltips24.com/Otavalo.htm
"There are over 100 shamans in Ilumàn´s shaman´s association. They are famous for two types of work, one traditional botanical medicine, and more spiritual advice."

If you search for "Otavalo Indian" shaman, it's worth noting almost all you get are tourist sites trying to make money off of claims of selling exactly that.

It appears to me that Tomayo is perhaps an herbal healer, but that either he or his handlers decided there is more money in selling Nuage fantasies like "elemental connection to nature" so called ceremonies.

I mean, the flowers and candles in the ceremony, come on. That's curanderismo, elements more from Catholicism than NDN tradition. And you know Bacardi Rum in a ceremony was not part of NDN traditions.

Making someone into a "saint" or a "rainbow bird shaman", esp an outsider who doesn't know anything about the culture except what the Nuage center tells them? That sounds like a pretty flagrant money making scam. Someone can't be trained in a tribal tradition in a few short workshops, or anything short of many years of intense training.

One of the people he "trained," Tom Arcuti, sells everything but the kitchen sink, including crystal balls and "custom medicine bags".
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5143000

Arcuti is a pretty obvious seller of Nuage ceremonies like "Energetic Protection."
