The pronouncement recognized the history of the Metis and contributions of Metis people to the development of the Province of Saskatchewan and Canada.
2010 marks the 125th anniversary of the Northwest Resistance. In 1885, the final battle of the resistance was fought at Batoche, Saskatchewan and the Metis leader Louis Riel, was tried and hung.
The Metis people have persevered over the years and continue to Honour the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom and Rights.
The annual Metis gathering, known as "Back to Batoche," held in late July, is expected to attract more people than ever before. Bring your fiddles and dancing shoes!
