Canto Luz Center for Investigation and Cultural Preservation

This is the retreat center in Peru where a Canadian woman died several days ago.  It is suspected that she died from a tea preparation (not ayahuasca).

About Canto Luz:

http://www.cantoluz.com/#!about/cift

"We offer unique tree house living, as a way to re-connect with nature, Ayahuasca retreats, Shamanic Plants dietas; as well as provide volunteering opportunities and support local community by developing sustainability projects, actively participating in the movement to protect our region from destruction. We also host various research groups which take advantage of the virgin rainforest surrounding us."

Our Philosophy:

http://www.cantoluz.com/#!philisophy/c1hjj

"Canto Luz ayahuasca retreat was born out of a dream, a dream of a big family of friends sitting in a circle, singing a song together, and from this circle of brothers and sisters, the big pillar of light rises high into the night sky. And all over the world, there are many more circles like this one, also singing into the night, emanating the light. And these pillars of light connect together, weaving a light network around the globe, connected.Together, we are One."

Canto Luz is female owned ayahuasca retreat and all our ceremonies are held by a female curandera Reyna Edry Flores. Reyna's motherly energy and full integrity provides safe environment for our ceremonies, as she powerfully guides the visions through beautiful icaros. Reyna's experience of more than 25 years gives her the knowledge of the forest plants necessary for healing and dietas.

Working with a female curandera was not just a choice, but a result of many years of collaboration between Reyna and Mariya and the result of the ongoing effort to empower women.

Their names are Reyna Luz Edery Flores and Mariya Garnet.

Mariya Garnet is the Founder and Director of Canto Luz. She was born in Russia and her voyage into the world of healing shamanism started in Siberia, continued in North America and, through India, led her to South America - first Brazil and then Peru, where she presently lives.

Mark and his colleagues found a very special place called Canto Luz (Spanish Canto - song, Luz - light). Canto Luz is a tree house retreat center devoted to self-healing, environmentalism, supporting traditional plant medicine practices (eg. Ayahuasca), eco-tourism and sustainable living. Dreamed into life by Mariya Garnet and Sara Mason, their passion for conservation and transformational healing united them in preserving 1500 acres of Peruvian Amazon through shamanic practices of the jungle.

It seems it was an tragic accident. The curandera is mestiza (mixed background), with two decades of experience.

An article was written by a prominent journalist investigating what happened. This journalist also wrote the piece interviewing Sara. For reference, please see the link I found below.
