I don't see any buzz about a recent arrest on the ayahuasca.com forums - I'd expect to, as they follow relevant legal issues closely. […]

There were news about the arrest of—and charges against—Shoemaker some fifteen years back:

Sorry about my math: The articles are all dated in October, 2002, so that's sixteen years back.

I tried to find out how Shoemaker escaped around that time and became a fugitive in the open in Peru. Didn't really find out about that, but I found a Wiki article and a couple of interviews not mentioned here before:
