Salmonberrry’s year-round school education model focuses on a specific theme for each nine-week quarter. This theme is integrated into as many aspects of the curriculum as possible. Prior to the field trip, the Salmonberry primary classroom delved into the American Southwest. Students had Spanish lessons, and wrote books on the Spanish explorers in the area such as Cortez, and Coranado. Art lessons focused on special Native American projects such as weaving, pottery, and painting. The students also designed and built their own Katchina dolls, a spiritual idol of the Native Americans.
Ugh!
