BlackTail Ranch, Feathered Pipe, India Supera
« on: February 20, 2009, 08:28:58 pm »
I have recently browsed around the net and came to this vacation hideaway in Montana. The Spokespeople presented on this sight are Tag Rittel & Sandra Renner. The are giving out workshops complete with sweats and taking people to the hill. The are also interconnected with this site called www.featheredpipe.com. I have sent them an email asking who it is holding these ceremonies and who it is giving permission to hold these ceremonies. Has anyone heard of these guys?

I've not heard of these guys but looking at their website, it's one of those typical vacation properties that the owners have fixed up and sell lodging space for  'vacation and retreat time' to corporations and individuals with cash.

I don't know what their connection is with the Yoga place, but I would not be surprised that they know each other.  It's seems like typical yuppie stuff.

This is what is on their web site.

Workshops and Retreats

The Blacktail has hosted many prominent retreats and programs. We have a variety of unique facilities and amenities to offer that are included in the above per person rate.

The Hogan, is an octagonal building that has windows on every wall offering an extraordinary 360 degree view of the Rocky Mountains. The Hogan has electric heat and is completely private, sitting about 500 yards up on the hill to the west of the Main Lodge. Vehicle Transportation to and from the Hogan can be provided for those who are unable to walk the foot path to it. The Hogan is perfect for family reunions, storytelling, group processing, dance, meditation, and ceremony. Bathroom facilities are located outside, adjacent to the building. Individual futon cushions, chairs, and water are always available. The Hogan can comfortably facilitate groups of 10-40.

The Tee-Pee’s are available upon request for groups to hold counsel, storytelling, group process, meditation and for private introspection.
The Blacktail offers a sweat lodge to groups interested in celebrating the native traditions of the land. Experienced sweat lodge leaders necessary.

All meals are served in the Main Lodge unless otherwise specified. Sunlight illuminates the walls while pine bows dance above. The yurt resembles a Mongolian-style home used by shepherds and nomads. It fits well in the Montana forest, along with the teepees nearby, representing a blend of Eastern and Native American cultures—a theme Supera has woven into the ranch’s fabric.

Tag is the son of a former congressman from Montana and the featherpipe ranch is up Colorado Gulch, outside of Helena.  It is the primary site for Brooke Medicine Eagle's promotions in Montana.  I wanted to see what the place was like and drove up there a couple of years ago. I was quickly met and driven off by the "security forces" employed by the ranch.  I didn't have a parking pass displayed in my car so they knew I was not one of them.  I didn['t argue as I don't argue with people who have guns in the gun racks in their pickup trucks.

So to answer the question, this place and people are well known as alternative/New-age around Helena.

Claims about the ranch.

http://www.featheredpipe.com/press/pdfs/atlantisrising.pdf
"Psychic anthropologist George McMillan has stated there is a yet undiscovered southern en- trance, and there are hundreds of people buried nearby. Other seers believe Chief Jo- seph is buried on Blacktail property. Both the Blacktail and the Feathered Pipe ranches receive guests for retreat, rec- reation and renewal. Both offer sweat lodge ceremonies and feature prominent spiritual workshop leaders. Though you might think of the Feathered Pipe (the name signifies finding new direction, after an Indian Pipe ritual) as similar to California's Esalen, Mas- sachusett's Kripalu Center and New York's Omega Institute, Supera sees them as dis- tinctly different: "Esalen focuses more on the intellectual life, and we're much smaller than either Kripalu or Omega. People really have to make a pilgrimage to come here....
Though early programs focused on astrology, psychic development and biofeed- back, and introduced pioneers like Paavo Ai- rola, Dr. John Lilly, Dr. Andrew Weil and the renowned Dr. Bernard Jensen, the Feath- ered Pipe Ranch has become synonymous with Iyengar Yoga, a style of Hatha yoga that focuses on alignment of the body according to techniques introduced by BKS Iyengar. 'We really helped shape the Iyengar com- munity," says Supera, who, though she also helped to found the Yoga Journal, doesn't look like she puts in much mat time"

Bio of Rittel's son has an interesting bit.

http://www.riverbendpublishing.com/backyardcook.html
"John Rittel and Lori Rittel, a brother and sister author duo, grew up on the Blacktail Ranch, a guest ranch in Montana, along with two other siblings, brother Eric, and sister Jeri. The four spent much of their childhood camping outdoors, packing into the backcountry, and even spent a summer living in a teepee in the mountains with their father, Tag Rittel, and a handful of other children from the Dearborn community."

The ranch was also the site of a famous  Montana murder spree in which the killer (somewhere around 18 or 19, just a kid) was eventurally executed.  It was one of the ones that former governor Racicot had to sign the death warrent on, despite his being very anti-death penalty.

As a side note, the feather pipe ranch is known in the Indian community in Helena as the Sewer pipe ranch and the Black Tail is the Flatulent Tail Ranch.  Guess that shows what people think of them

Sadly, I'm not surprised Brooke medicine Eagle has a hand in this she love big money and gross expliotation. I am still trying to get a holda my uncles from Eagle Butte to see if they hearda them mostly cause thats as close to montana as my peeps get, that I know of. That is sadly awesome about the thing with the ' If you can't get your lazy rear end to walk up a hill to your hogan or tipi they will drive to the door'. WOW :P So there has to be a law or infraction against this commercializations of Indin resorts  amd hideaways. Can you imagine those yuppies on their wi fi computers doin office work in them tipis and hogans. Business indins. lol.

Another account of this group. Moved to Frauds.

---------
A new age business is charging hundreds of dollars from their clients to create and conduct fake sweatlodge ceremonies.

India Supera, CEO of the Feathered Pipe Ranch, located outside of Helena, Montana, manages a new age yoga retreat business. India has been charging clients to attend a fake sweatlodge which she charged a client $500 to have for his weekly retreat. She used paid employees to supply wood and rocks. India paid a non native Johrei Reverend, Lorna McMurray to run it for her clients.
Neither India or Lorna are native born, enrolled or legally connected to any tribe. No tribe in Montana or other tribes have any idea that India is charging money.

Per cultural appropriation laws, India and Lorna are well versed in knowing better than to charge money for native ceremonies, as both have attended many native ceremonial events and were personally instructed by real native Elders to never charge or 'sell' these cultural customs.

Feathered Pipe Ranch's flyer is advertising the sweatlodge. India Supera charged $500 a sweat.

India Supera has been a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba (1926 - 2011) for forty plus years.

Sai Baba was a predator, he molested children. There are many articles available on this, including https://culteducation.com/group/1132-sathya-sai-baba/18154-a-holy-furore-rages-in-britain.html

Quote
Interestingly, the United States Department of State has a travel advisory against the Sathya Sai Organisation: “US citizens should be aware that there have been unconfirmed reports of inappropriate sexual behaviour by a prominent local religious leader at an ashram or religious retreat located in Andhra Pradesh.”

The Guardian says US state officials have confirmed that this is a direct reference to Sathya Sai Baba. There have been rumours for years that the spiritual guru, who calls himself an incarnation of god, molested young devotees during interviews. Both Indian and foreign visitors to the ashram have come on record to say how he has abused them.

Supera says that Sai Baba directed her to run the ranch in Montana https://web.archive.org/web/20190711224158/https://featheredpipe.com/feathered-pipe-roots/in-indias-words/

I hardly know where to begin about this one, whom I have warned against for at least 30 years. These are resources I have used for some years now. They all contain links to other resources:
