Hello - I live in Northern California and I came upon the NAFPS while googling info for a request for donations for the Rosebud Teens. I am also trying to educate myself a bit about the Lakota Sioux based the donation request - via the internet and my local library offerings. I am kinda a computer tech. Thank you to those that have created and maintain this site!

I don't think I have a link at hand for Rosebud charities, but http://www.oglalalakotanation.org/ has been posting about the current snow emergency there. This article (courtesy Twinkie Wrangler) has lots of info about fake charities: http://www.citizensalliance.org/links/pages/articles%20and%20CERA%20news/Questionable%20Indian%20Charities.htm

Definitely do your research, and make sure people are legitimate. There is a deep, ongoing, serious need for help in many places, but there are also criminals looking to exploit that need in order to fill their own pockets.

If you want to ask about specific groups, people here may know about them.

Thank you for the reply...The folks asking via emaio were Jeff Wright for Norman and Shannon Running. I read a few things on this site, became a bit concerned, found the email for help was virtually identical to one posted in 2007, responded directly to the Runnings, asked for a physical address and 501(3)c #... got that back, researched with the IRS..found it to be the non-profit number for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rosebud..called them, spoke to Tevis, it took him a moment but he said the request was legit. My friends sent warm weather gear, clothes, jewelry, games, and other things... with more coming. But I still a bit hinky about the whole thing. I'll check your links out and if you have any further to add from my comments above, would be greatly appreaciated.. if you want to make it off-line - email is think.peace@att.net.

If you give me a little more info - needs, address, 501 3c, etc.. I'll speak to my friends and we'll see what we can put together. J
