Just read this article about Jimi Castillo, a man that is sharing sweat lodge in prision. It seems to have a good understanding of the medicine, cause he shares (obviously) without looking for any kind of interested.

Maybe someone knows about him? In a part of the article:

Jimi Castillo is the name," he says and we shake. He welcomes me to his garden as he locks the gate behind us. He is the Pipe Carrier for the Tongva and Acjachmen tribes on whose ancestral land L.A. and this prison are built. His business card reads Native American Chaplin. He has conducted weekly sweat lodge ceremonies here since 1989..

Does anybody has information about him Jimi or a way to get in contact with him?
Is he trustworthy? (hope is well written)

The name is familiar, but I haven't had a chance to ask around yet. Do we know whether the tribes he says he's from have Sweat and Pipe ceremonies?

Since you're asking questions about him, I've moved this thread to "Research Needed".

Since we don't automatically put people in the "Frauds" section without discussion, I think that, for the most part, we should have the same policy about the "Non-Frauds" section.

I think that whenever there is a request for  more information on someone who is leading public ceremonies, we should probably discuss them here before putting them in either place.

There's also plenty of other mentions of him on the Kumeyaay tribal homepage, a film festival, and numerous articles about his work in prisons.

Neither have fed recognition but one has state. I think like most CA tribes they are established communities that don't have recog because of Termination.
There's ways to contact them, phone, email. They can tell you if Castillo is a member and well regarded in the community,, though I suspect we already know the answer.

No concern or issue. Is difficult from South america to have good information on the work from a person of the north.. I'm really interested in his work and wanted to now if he was worthy to get in touch with... (hope is well written)

Our family has known Jimmy Castillo since 1989.  My mother and sister would visit Chino Prison along with other Southern California natives to dance.

yes, he is trustworthy.  he has a good reputation here in the so cal native community.  of course, he has some baggage when it comes to prison.

Jimi Castillo is the first Native American to run for the office of Lt. Governor in California on behalf of the Green Party. His tribal ancestry is Tongva, the original people of the Greater Los Angeles area, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino County (commonly referred to as the Gabrieleno) and Acjachemen, the original people of the south Orange County area and northern San Diego County (commonly referred to as the Juaneno).

Chief among his priorities are:
• the improvement of the criminal justice system
• assurance that California residents are provided a clean, safe supply of drinking water and that our existing surface and groundwater is protected from pollution
• preservation of our oceans with their enormous diversity of life and function
• promotion of a greater awareness of the rights of all indigenous peoples worldwide and the support of full self-government on all Indian reservations
• finding ways to make formal education more accessible and affordable

Thanks very much on the info. I got in touch with Jimmi. Nice man, very humble. He told me that Enrique Murillo, and Robert Jacobo were trustworthy for him. People that have a good understanding and share his fire in prisions. Maybe someone from the forum has heard from them? Any info will be appreciatted. Thanks for everything again. Abrazos a todos.

Also just check a forum in spanish, from Mexico i believe. They share the same principles that I can see in napfs forum. If someone knows spanish, take a look. The're against the profit from ceremonies, and the charlatans. Also in Mexico you can find traditions, true people with hearth. Lots of charlatans also, as everywere. But they stand for good principals i undestand. www.rojointenso.net

I have my doubts about that forum. Even though my Spanish is not the best, it's enough to see that the forum is a lot of Castaneda admirers and claims about other traditions. Basically they believe in what Castaneda wrote, but do not want to be charged for it and avoid his more obvious lies. This probably belongs in Research. No idea why you include it here, since it has nothing to do with Castillo.

Just want to say how much Jimi Castillo and his wife helped me.  Back in May I was going through a hard time.  He and his wife gave me some tabacco to pray with and he smudged me with an Eagle Feather.  It was a seemingly small gesture at a Pow-wow.  That good medicine helped me a lot.  I believe these people are very sincere and I am grateful to them both.
