I'm sure that there are/were forms of European sweats and that some of those go back as far as native sweats.

How do they know they sweated in them things?  Soot on the ceiling could easily be from a small camp fire.

This was all covered in the articles and previous discussions linked up-thread (which include the links to Anthony's pages). We have accounts of it that have survived into living memory, as well as things that were written down at the turn of the previous century. You can't have a  "campfire" in these structures. They're not large enough or well-ventilated enough to be inside them at the same time as a fire.

Thanks, I'm behind in reading boards, but should have looked for it. I have a natural distrust of what is called 'history', started in the 4th grade when school taught about the Vikings.
