"No RAIN Today DANCE" - Ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers and family to sponsor you in our "No RAIN Today DANCE". Don't worry, talent is not needed to 'dance'. Prizes for the top three 'dancers' raising the most pledges. And goodie bags for any 'dancers' who raise over $200. The funds raised for this 'dance' benefit KPETS and the mission to promote and coordinate pet therapy efforts in our area.

T-Pee Post - $30:
This is a fun game we will be doing that will include posts – all with vendor signs attached (above ground level) in a small fenced in area. These 8.5x11signs will be created using your design and may include your company name, digital logo**, etc. During the afternoon we will be selling tickets for each of the posts. After the Pet Contest we will focus on these posts to determine the winner. A male dog will be released in the fenced area and will most likely relieve himself (pee) on one of these posts designating our winner.

there poster shows a k9 in a full native head dress and a pee pee t pee

o Totem Pole Trading Post (yard sale)

o Bow Wow Pow Wow No Rain Today Dance/Walk – Families and their pets are invited to pursue pledges from friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors to sponsor them for the Pow Wow No-Rain-Today Dance.

And pictures of a... yellow... tipi.  ???

I'm not finding the picture of the dog in the head dress.

As all the pictures I can see on the site are of white people, this looks to me like another, "Isn't it fun to dress animals up as Indians" mockery. Which I'm sure they will say is "all in good fun."  >:(

all other bow wow pow wow sights are about the pets and care, adoptions, safe toys, health for your pets, a gathering of friends
no other sight even go any where near the native thing it is only Ephrata pa. Eicher Center
there is a native memorial located there and i am going to talk to the family to have it removed from there location, if this is the way they preconceive the native ways, it is a total insult

I've emailed the info@ address pointing out the insult and saying that although they're unlikely to cancel the event that they realise and make this the first and last event of this type.

I also pointed out an appropiate saying;
You'll never be hungry as long as you have a dog

lol

Ironic that I recently was alerted (by Honor the Earth's facebook page) to Winona Laduke's op-ed commentary on the ultimate fate of the UND mascot (copied below from the Detroit Lakes Online news site).

This website http://www.indianmascots.com/ looks to have some helpful resources in their "Advocacy Tools" section for educating the ignorant - ie they cite research about the psychological damage of "playing Indian."

In early April, the University of North Dakota dropped a vilified mascot name the “Fighting Sioux.” That is, after a decade of litigation (including an NCAA lawsuit against the school for the racially offensive logo) and around twenty years of protests. The Frozen Four hockey power house (with a $100 million stadium full of 1,200 logo inset arena seats) will have to undergo some changes. The day after the announcement, hundreds of pro mascot protesters flocked the University’s grounds to show their dismay. It’s gonna be a tough year. Probably a lot of counseling for those suffering from Indian Mascot Identity Loss Syndrome (IMILS), and generally a challenge for the University. I applaud the North Dakota Board of Education for taking a decisive and healing move.

Things change, and we need to be grown ups and address the change, despite an 80 year attachment to a mascot. It is just a mascot. It’s not like you had your homeland buried under a dam project, or had your village burned by the military. And, the Lakota people and other Native people deserve to be recognized as more than mascots. Consider that despite how “proud” some folks might feel about the mascot, they might not feel so proud about the economics of the Sioux. It is a 120 years after the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890, and 10 of the 20 poorest counties in the country are Native reservations. The vast majority of them are Lakota and Dakota reservations.

I believe that the poorest people in the country should not be Native people, and I believe that rich people and families like those of the Engelstads (who received some front page coverage in the Fargo Forum about their concerns) should do better things with their money — like maybe invest in the environment, culture, and restoring local food systems. That’d be what I would do if I was rich. Trustee Kris Engelstad McGarry said in a press release the family felt “deceived”, and was so concerned about the status of the logo, they financed much of the legal fight against the National College Athletic Association.

Let me explain a bit about deceived — how about some 470 broken treaties? How about promises like as long as the grass shall grow and rivers flow? How about promises to not dig up people and put them in museums for everyone to see? How about treaty guaranteed rights of hunting, fishing and wild ricing, being ignored by state authorities? And, how about those 23 Congressional Medals of Honor awarded to soldiers who committed the Wounded Knee Massacre, or the fact that Congress has never issued a formal apology for the devastation wrought?

I would like to feel sorry for the Engelstad family and the University of North Dakota mascot supporters, but I can’t seem to muster up that sympathy. I could suggest some counselors who have experience in the Native American community with some ongoing historic trauma. And, I would be happy to work on helping the family and University move to a promising and just relationship with Native people. Just let me know.

Perhaps they could have an event where they dress dogs up like the Pope, or as bishops, cardinals, and maybe some rabbis (you know, to be "inclusive" in their "appreciation"). Maybe the people could dress up like this, and stand in the field till a dog pees on them.

Maybe they could put crucifixes and other religious art in the field and encourage dogs to pee on them.

Seems like they're reworking all the links as they are currently down right now.  Hope they're brainstorming for some better ideas.  Love the mission of this place, they just ignorantly chose a "theme" they thought was cute and fun without realizing they're covering their good work with bad stereotypes.

If they do make some positive changes then I'd give them kudos for being open-minded and listening and wish them the best.
