I have circulated his name in the Milwaukee American Indian Community and his web-site and this is some of the feedback I got on him as well as my own.
People are willing to come forth and expose people like this now here and we are preparing a document that outlines this type of conduct and how to deal with it.
Dennis Hawk is another "Cherokee Descendent" as if that doesn’t give it all away right there, he is about as blonde as can be almost albino. He uses the fact his wife may be Stockbridge-Munsee to be able to call himself-
"a pipe carrier, sweat lodge leader and teacher of Native American spirituality." taken from his web-site.
He works with Non-Indians in the suburbs of Milwaukee where there unlikely to run into a real American Indian who will dispute what he he is doing. All his activities are Lakota based, as are many of these frauds, and he even runs a "mini-vision quest" at the Schlitz Audobon Center in Bayside, WI.
He is also a friend and compatriot to they confirmed fraud on this site: Tim Dancing Red Hawk McIntosh, which both have alot in common besides their really blonde hair, and both have the name Hawk, they also were both former Christian Pastors.
I would like to see these guys exposed in a more public way and we are coming up with a process in the Milwaukee area.
Thanks for your attention and the work you do on this site it is much needed and sought after info. Here's the comments I received about him through email from community members; and here's his site to see for yourself and Facebook page.
"Dennis Hawk is way out there as well. He told Arvol Looking Horse's wife, Paula, to watch her tongue, this is after she asked that he stop his use of sacred ways for his ego, in the pursuit of a following."
"He's even more dangerous. Selling CDs of Lakota sweatlodge songs. With translation and meanings. I don't know any Natives knowledgeable enough or willing enough to do that."
"Regarding Dennis Hawk, for what it's worth, I felt that his presentation was not for real, but I didn't really have enough words to express that. I did complain to a staff person at Audubon, and suggest that they not invite him back, but they continued to hold the classes. While I was at the class, I respectfully refused to participate in the circle experience when it came my turn. I have also not gone back."
