The Gathering with "native ceremonies" 11.11.11 Sedona
« on: February 08, 2011, 04:44:34 pm »
Not sure what to think about this but the promotional material for this events claims that native ceremonies will be part of the event.

It appears to be a mish mash of newage stuff with "native ceremonies".

The organiser is someone called Scott Love aka Scott Bayden Love

This looks interesting to me, and not necessarily in a good way.

just checked out that website ... oh wow.  I was tempted to "sign up" just to see what all is going on but resisted as I have no idea who or what these people are about.  It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.

I was tempted too, but it is possible (insufficient data to be sure at the moment) that this event is linked to a criminal organisation and I would advise extreme caution about anyone signing up to anything via this website.

It could just be selling or misrepresenting ceremonies (or should that be cere-monies?) but the Indigo Children, Starseed and Lightworker themes all ring alarm bells for me given prior experience of researching some really nasty criminal networks.

It does seem to be at an early stage of development and I think watchful waiting is the best strategy at this point.

I just wanted to make sure that people were keeping their beady eyes on this in case anything especially sinister crawls out of the woodwork.

Why this event is Free.
When it was decided that we would be creating The 11.11.11. Gathering as a FREE event it was because we knew that it HAD to be this way. How do you charge for something that is natural and pure? This event is not about "the event" it is ALL about the people, all beings, who are participating.

There has always been one HUGE question that has been raised over and over, a simple, yet key question. "If this event is FREE, how are you going to pay for it?"

The answer is, as it always has been."We Believe".

The whole point of NOT charging ticket prices is to make it accessible to everyone who feels it. Not just those who can afford to buy a ticket.

We believe that there are guides and angels working to bring this through. We believe in this community. We believe in OUR collective energy. This is one example of what we can do. Together. We believe.

so i will keep a "beady eye" on it, i will report back anything interesting,
i depend on your guidance ...
and ...
i can always change my mind, eh?

Obvious new age.

Talks about Indigo and Crystal children.

Plus in Sedona, new age capital in Arizona.

Thanks for taking the effort to sign up :)

Please be careful though

Sometimes these sites are just newage sites promoting fuzzy ideas around "oneness" but increasingly they are fronts for criminality.  It is always best to be careful until you have a good idea of what is actually going on.

Mr. Bayden contacted us, demanding to know why we were talking about him without his permission (paraphrasing). He did offer to speak to anyone with concerns. My response follows.

Hello there,
My name is Scott Love and recently it came to my attention a certain article, or blog, regarding The 11.11.11. Gathering and how you are "Monitoring" our progress.

Do you feel that a simple e-mail asking what this event is about might have been appropriate? I do.

You see, I feel that what you are doing could be a valuable service to the people. Protecting them from fraud, protecting US ALL, from fraud is so important. Especially now that people are becoming more and more fearful and sometimes cling to ideas and concepts that bring them security.

I welcome you to fully inspect out site, pay particular attention to the introduction and The Vision pages. I am sure that you will find no dogma or agenda. Our mission is simply to bring people together in a way that we are rarely given the chance to. ALL people. Regardless of how you may deem appropriate to label them, or classify them, us. Not only do I welcome you to come to the site, I would encourage you to raise to the moment, do some real good for this community, all around the earth, since you are on the "world wide web" by doing research and put some time behind the things you report. I can support this. If you are really about helping protect people, lets find a space for you at this event. This may be interesting. :) If you're credible and providing a service, you are welcome.

Having published many mini-zines out of Detroit, mostly under the title "indiescript", I recognize the desire to be poignent and stark. But when it comes at the expense of someone else, there is a line that must be drawn. A standard. Otherwise you simply get lumped into "one of those" catagories and in the process you become the very thing you are rallying against.

So, let's talk. It is disappointing to see my name being spread around so irresponsibly and I would hope that you would do something to take care of the post that you published. If you are interested in an interview or actually conversation, we can arrange this.

Thanks for your time,
Scott Love

Hello Mr. Love,
It is interesting but not surprising you would regard simple curiousity by 4 members of a board of over 2000 and their criticism of the obvious about your event as something you needed to respond to and even control.

It is also not surprising you would collectively blame us all and then feel yourself to be so important we must check with you before any of us can critique your event.

As you claim, there is no hidden agenda to your event. It is a Nuage event in the Nuage capital, Sedona, a city notorious for deception, abuse, exploitation, falsehoods, and self delusion. Why would anyone be suspicious?

To start with, you claim there will be "Native Ceremonies" at your event. The great majority of operators in Sedona claiming to be Native or performing Native ceremonies are not in fact Native at all. The few that are generally are not recognized as ceremonial leaders nor trained as such. Virtually all are imposters, little different from con men who pose as ministers in order to loot the poor box.

That you would not list them anywhere on your site is telling. If you have evidence to the contrary that those who will perform these ceremonies are legit, we are certainly willing to listen.

You also promote the Indigo Children hustle, which exploits parent of children with autism, ADHD, and other conditions. So why would anyone be suspicious of you?

I will forward your offer to the board. I'm certain others would be interested in speaking with you as well.

Make that five members...

What jumps out to me on the website are the numerous solicitations for donations, beginning on the home page, with one page allowing donors to specify what their donations are to be used for:

http://thegathering111111.weebly.com/111111-gathering-fund-raiser1.html

I can find no reference anywhere on the site to the status of this group. Is it an incorporation? A partnership? Unincorporated? No mention that I could find anywhere if this is a for-profit venture or non-profit. Does Arizona require such solicitiations to be registered with the Secretary of State's office as many states do? (I am not familiar with Arizona regulations regarding open soliciations. Maybe someone on this forum is familiar with AZ requirements, if any. Most states require some form of registration for solicitation of donations. Perhaps that has been done by this group? If yes to both issues, this information would be available to the public from the Secretary of State of Arizona. Again, I am not familiar with AZ requirements.)

Missing from the website (or at least I could not find any information) is where is this group based out of? Arizona is the gathering place, but is this group based in AZ or elsewhere? I do not know. If based elsewhere, then my questions about solicitations of donations still apply...

Generally, the use of the words "donation" and "volunteer" imply nonprofit status. Is it? On first run-through, it appears not. Nonprofit groups tend to tout that information.

To me, this appears more to be a non-prophet group, whether for profit or not. An apt play on words. Just my first impression. I could be wrong.

Scott

I think that the situation with your "The Gathering" website is that there are a lot of indicators to at best cultural appropriation and fraud and at worst criminality.

I share clearwater's concerns about the dearth of information regarding the entity you represent as this, in my experience, is often indicative of fraudulent activities.

As Al mentioned in his post you are advertising "Native Ceremonies" but give no detail as to what they are, who is running them or what benefits to Native people these ceremonies are meant to grant.

You must be aware that there is a long and inglorious history of business entrepreneurs stealing and misrepresenting Native ceremonies, offering them falsely to non-natives and even making money from them, and so it is unsurprising that your poster and website are generating concerns for all kinds of reasons.

Having said the above, please take notice that this thread is in the "research needed" forum and not the Frauds forum.  This is because, even with all the indicators of possible fraudulent activity, there is insufficient data for any of us to know what is going on with your website and event.

It may walk like a duck, but at this point we have not yet heard it quack.  Maybe it does not quack and is not in fact a duck?

Now you are here and appear happy to post here you have an opportunity to put the record straight about a number of issues and reassure those of us who have concerns about you and your website an event.

It is important to provide clear information about the type of entity that you represent, is it a business, a not-for-profit organisation or a registered charity?

Who are the Native people leading the ceremonies advertised on your poster?  Who are the recipients of the ceremonies?  What connections do you have with native communities and how will those communities benefit from your event?

I appreciate that it might be early days in the planning of your event and that it is possible that you have the answers to these questions but simply have not yet made them available via your website.  Your participation in this thread provides you with an opportunity to put the record straight and I look forward to hearing from you.
