Oh yeah! we know who they are, they tried using their situation in LA to gather donations here in arkansas so they could buy their own community as Indians. The LR news kept putting them out there w/ a picture of an actual indian...seems the news quit doing it after we brought to their attention what they were encouraging by misrepresenting who these people are.

We were Indians then, and we are Indians Now!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The St. Tammany Parish Native American Tribe, descendents of a mixture of Cherokee, Creek, Chahta, “Choctaw”, an important tribe or confederacy of Muskogean stock, formerly holding most of Southern Alabama and Mississippi, with adjoining portion of Louisiana.

The Chahta Indian was Pioneers of the old Florida Parishes, they were formerly connected with the Chickasaw and crossed the Mississippi together from the West, Their first appearance in history was in 1550, when De Soto’s march in what was perhaps the most terrible Indian battle ever fought in Eastern United States.

They made their first treaty with the United States in 1786, since which time they have never been at war with the Government, and was documented by: Abbe Rouquette in Bayou Lacombe in 1845-1887.

The Chahta Indians of St. Tammany Parish, have been historically documented, as Bayou Bonfouca Choctaw, Bayou Lacombe Choctaw, Northshore of Ponchartrain Choctaw and St. Tammany Choctaw and the Florida Parishes Choctaw, all still the same Indians, and many of these settlement are present today.

It is documented that the Ducre’s of Bayou Lacombe, is the last of the Bayou Lacombe Chahta’s, the inventors of fi’le, used in today’s Creole and Cajun gumbo.

About Chief Warhorse

I have been A leader in St.Tammany Parish for Human Rights for over half of my life, which is 20 plus years.

For the Past 5 years I have been fighting for the rights of my tribe as Chief, still holding my seat as President of the St. Tammany Parish SCLC and now holding a National seat as National Board Member for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference "SCLC"; founding President Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, founding Board Member, Rev. Avery C. Alexander of New Orleans.

One thing I have learn is that you only get that which you fight for, or the squeaking Wheel gets the grease.

As an Indian I have to fight to get the right just to be "Indian", you can be what ever race you please but not Indian.

A lot of what Gillum and her group are saying is also discussed in threads we have on related groups:

Discussion of Gillum's claim that Africans are the real NDNs, and that NDNs are actually "Chinese" (or something) and "perpetrating" on the lands in the US: http://www.newagefraud.org/smf/index.php?topic=590.0

Compare Gillum's statements with the platforms and writings of these groups:

This explains so much! Thank you for making this connection clear.

Looks like Gillum is following the playbook of Empress Verdiacee "Tiari" Washitaw-Turner Goston El-Bey http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/1999/spring/born-on-the-bayou?page=0,0 and related groups.

Interesting bit here said by Ms. Gillum /Chief Warhorse, early in video about 0:10 mark paraphrased:

"Another thing I'm fighting for is that we as a nation have a place of governing that is represented and recognized by the United States goverment.

They say well that's federal recognition.

And I say no that's not. That is a god given right A god given right."

Gillum and group refer to the "Jim Ducre clan" often as a claim to NDN heritage. Gillum also says that they don't have any French heritage. http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.ducre/39/mb.ashx

It is possible to piece together the genealogy of the man they are referring to. There is French heritage from the 1700s. That heritage was even discussed in a 1938 Louisiana court case Sunseri v. Cassagne- the case is directly related to this Ducre family lineage.

Gillum makes quite a few genealogy claims that can sound legit but with some research are found to not hold up at all. I think she has an audience who wants to be NDN and so they buy what she tells them.

As for her historical claims of being a tribe, some of what she says sounds like it is her own spin on http://www.unitedhoumanation.org/node/12

This combined with what Kathryn identified earlier in this thread as related groups who claim Africans were the real NDNs - hopefully will help people think twice before joining Gillum's group. Or giving them money. Or buying everything they say without doing any research.

If they were awarded a minority grant or contract, they are Black community org passing itself off as a Native tribe. At the very least the state should not be posting inaccurate information that legitimizes their nonsense claim.
