This Lakota elder was a victim of a hate crime while being cared for in the Rapid City Regional Hospital. He is blind. He was put under for heart surgery. When he awoke, a nurse made him aware that
KKK had been carved onto his stomach.
This is disgusting!!

Note: The elder is Vern Traversie, from Cheyenne River. The tribal police think he was also stabbed while he was under sedation. We do not know if this was done by a surgeon, or by the nurse or orderly who said insulting things to this elder in the recovery room. This will need help from media, a good lawyer, and tribal police. It looks like there are KKK or KKK sympathizers in the hospital staff; the hospital will probably be of no help. Now this elder is not getting adequate medical treatment. He has been assaulted and traumatized, and can no longer trust this, the closest hospital, for medical care. This is heartbreaking. Please, anyone who can help, get on this!
