Has a book been written that documents the cultural appropriation of North American Indigenous people?

There are a couple but the names escape me. But Vine DeLoria covers some of it in his books. I will look around and see if I can find those books. I think one book, not by DeLoria, may have been titles "Playing Indian."

Youre' thinking of Playing Indian by Phillip Deloria. There are also books on appropriation with the mascot issue, Dancing at Halftime, American Indian Stereotypes.

Oh, yeah, that was Philip Deloria. Vine Deloria had some things to say about it too, but I am unsure of which book. Could have been a chapter in God is Red.

Vine Deloria "Custer died for your sins" could be the one.
Even Ella C. Deloria's "Speaking of Indians" is good.
Nice day to everybody

Tansi!
Get a copy of "Indian Giver" and read it. It's from the 80's, I believe and is a good resource.

You can also read:

There's really no one book that's gonna cover all areas of cultural appropriation, but works by Phillip Deloria often revolve around the topic. Modern NA anthro has an emerging class of books where Native anthros from around the country "study up" to find out where stereotypes in their regions or communities originate and how they are perpetuated. For visual stimulation, you can study it in films like "Reel Injun", which will open your eyes to Native representation in major medias such as movies and the effect it has had (not only domestically, but abroad).
Happy studying....
