Hello, Glad to be here, looking for knowledge
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:27:37 pm »
All my life we were told we were of native American decent from Mississippi. After years of genealogy/ancestry work, it is my best estimate that it would have to be of Chikasha / Chickasaw heritage. My family resides in Itwawamba County. It is my understanding that during the removal in 1837, the Chikasha were completely dissolved as a tribe and had not reformed until 1956. If this is accurate, this leaves a huge gap of no records to overcome.

I would wonder why you would be looking now? All you would have to do is go to the Chicjsaw Nation.
A person cant have best estimate of who you are; it is either you are or are not.
Native people are connect by family if you dont know your family you are connected.
