eastern medicine drum
« on: April 16, 2014, 05:33:55 pm »
this is some phony hasapa drum.....very laughable!! in fact i should post their songs in the comedy section.......you should hear their luther vandross style version of the AIM song hahahaha

but the reason i'm posting this is NOT funny. while i dont think they are selling ceremony.....it looks like they are selling themselves to speak at events. even IF they are volunteering (i doubt it....i think its on a "donation" system) they speak to schools and such. and to me that is dangerous....teaching false misinformation to children is an attempt to change and re-write history and put themselves in it

there is another group called Red Storm Drum doing the same thing......they have videos on youtube as well and they are almost as ridiculous sounding as eastern medicine singers.......my friends back east told me they are actually some puerto ricans who decided they were ndn one day....i hope he is wrong...but the names they chose for themselves speak otherwise.........but they also look to do school events

I think this is them.
http://easternmedicinesingers.webs.com/

If you listen to the songs they post, you can tell most of them learned to sing in Black church choirs growing up. Looking at the members I'd guess some of them are still learning and discovering their heritage. The reason why I say that is that most are only being photographed in full regalia and only use their NDN name. Like we've seen with some heritage groups, their fear is that others might not see them as NDN otherwise.

It's hard to tell what they might be telling school kids, other than performing songs. The only thing I see them selling online is their CD.

If I haven't heard of a particular tribe (I don't know all Tribes) I always go here to look them up. http://www.ncai.org/tribal-directory. The NCAI is very reliable, though I've noticed in the past couple of years they have started listing state tribes. And we all know how questionable those people are.
