"Avid traveller Jennifer Logan had finished a job teaching English to women in Saudia Arabia, and was visiting family back in Canada, when she set off last month for her next adventure in Peru. She had been gone nine days when staff at a rainforest retreat where she was staying called her parents in Saskatoon to tell them she had died. Logan's younger sister says they learned that the 32-year-old had a medical reaction after drinking tea during a ceremony with a shaman. She was taken by motorcycle and boat to hospital but doctors could not revive her. . ."

A search on "tobacco purge tea" brings up some interesting references since the article states the tea was not ayahuasca.

From a sight called Rainforest Expeditions -  http://www.perunature.com/tobacco-purge-peru-amazon-addon.html - complete with misspelled words.

Quote
This is a ritual that brings a very deep cleansing recomended before an ayahuasca ceremony. The tobacco it is a master plant used in the amazon to purify the liver, respiratory sistem, to clarify the thoughts and emotions. The ritual involves drinking2 liters of tobacco tea, while the healer its working in your energies you dispose of the tea by vomiting. The after ritual feeling of cleansing, strenght, peace and relax its perfect to get in the ayahuasca ceremony during night.

Also, Canto Luz where the death took place is specifically an ayahuasca retreat.

There is a video in the midst of that article, I fail to see its relevance to the news item, except being some kind of commercial afvertisement? The video is a trailer for this movie: http://mangu.tv/film/neurons-to-nirvana-understanding-psychedelic-medicines/

I saw this news item as it first appeared: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/jennifer-logan-dies-after-drinking-tobacco-purge-tea-in-peru-1.2945727

Four days later this follow-up was published: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/jennifer-logan-s-death-in-peru-puts-focus-on-purging-ceremonies-1.2948955

That latter article embeds this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW3lCmeg3dE

I find the embedding of these videos in those news articles in the aftermath of the tragic death of a young woman somewhat … bizarre?
