Special Note about Valerie Stiehl and Lakota TraditionsValerie Stiehl and Wainwright House respect and cherish Native American culture. Although Valerie is not Native American, when she teaches about their traditions, it is with sincerity and reverence. Valerie’s wisdom about Native American culture comes from her life experience and from the Lakota themselves. Valerie was married to a Cherokee Indian named Lightfoot. During her ten years living with the Lakota Sioux, an experience the Lakota themselves chose her for, she was taken in as one of their family. Chief Spotted Horse offered Valerie a pipe and told her she could lead Lakota ceremonies herself. Valerie declined the pipe and does not lead Lakota ceremonies because of her reverence for their traditions.
