Trefor Wickens

Hi All i have been visiting this forum for many years although only rejoined a couple of years ago. I am a British traditional witch or cunning man, perhaps more accurately. I have been involved in this stuff my whole life specialising in the use of British Herbs and folk magic having worked alone and in groups for many years. I am very interested in indigenous beliefs and studied anthropology to look at the similarities and differences between religions and paths. It became a concern of mine when i first stated meeting new age practitioners in my early twenties how often people were heavily borrowing from others cultures and watering down the beliefs and practices into some sanitised version. Two things concerned me the lack of respect and the disregard for their own heritage, i pointed this out and found these peace loving people to be often aggressively uninterested in looking at their cultural appropriation

I use the term Shaman to describe myself since I work with people using the spirits of the place and their ancestors when appropriate to hopefully bring about guidance and wellbeing for the people and communities I work with. I also use the term Cunning Man a very British name for people whom practice in healing using charms spells and herbs, along with dowsing and all sorts of other magical practices generally they were educated working class outsiders on the fringes of society. Both names fit me well. I am a traditional healer in the Northern European tradition and have been for over 25yrs. Working with people and places to bring about balance and harmony. I have always been involved with the spiritual and esoteric in my life. This as brought me wonderful and sad experiences in my life since nothing is black and white. I have work with people from lots of different backgrounds and have over the years being a member of and run lots of spiritual development groups. Leading from the back is the way I like describe the way I work with people in groups, guiding them in the unlearning process so they maybe open to the inner knowledge they already have deep within.
(my bolding)

Sorry Trefor, you don't get to pretend to be an ally.

I have a practical experience of over 30yrs using Shamanic healing techniques draw from European traditions, especially the wiseman / cunning folk traditions, academically I studied Anthropology at university and have lectured on Shamanic healing at College and University level.
