INDIGENOUS VOICES ON INDIGENOUS IDENTITY

In March, 2022, a forum on Indigenous self-identification was organized at First Nations University Canada by a group called National Indigenous University Senior Leaders’ Association (NIUSLA). This forum was only open to Indigenous people and The forum was convened to "discuss Indigenous perspectives on identity and citizenship and wise practices to validate Indigenous-specific opportunities at academic institutions." About 500 people attended this two-day gathering.

A second forum was convened in 2023 and entitled "2nd National Indigenous Citizenship Forum: Moving Beyond Indigenous Self-identification at Canadian Post-secondariesf. It was held again in Treaty 4 Territories (Regina) and featured speakers like Dr. Jean Teillet, Dr. Kim Tall Bear, and Dr. Jacqueline Ottman.
